First - the line of an ink can be wide or inaccurate, and thus affect the result of machining. Also, ink is harder to see on the metal surface, and it’s easy to erase. Scribing tools leave permanent thin traces, so the machining process can be carried out with particular precision. Scribers can also be assembled into contrivances that will allow to create geometrically flawless shapes, or used as parts of other devices.
